What each of the 9 US carriers charges at least (possibly in the plan, a day pass or a travel pass), as published on October 29, 2026, before taxes and fees; the three paid passes that cost least are shown, postpaid and prepaid, even where another plan may include the trip. We compare each carrier’s public day passes and travel passes. Some plans have high-speed data abroad built in, then reduced speed (for example AT&T Elite 2.0, T-Mobile Experience More and Beyond, Verizon’s and Google Fi’s top plans), and many include Mexico and Canada, so check your own plan. On roaming your US number also takes calls and texts; most of our plans are data only, so check the plan’s calls/SMS fields. This site is not affiliated with these carriers; we sell eSIMs. All destinations: roaming or eSIM, by country. Does my phone support eSIM?

Apple lists eSIM for “iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later” (Apple), and “iPhone 14 models or later purchased in the United States can only be activated with an eSIM” (Apple, checked on October 29, 2026). For Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models, the phone list links each maker’s US page.

Is my phone unlocked?

A travel eSIM needs a phone that is not locked to your US carrier. On an iPhone: Settings → General → About; Apple: “If ‘No SIM restrictions’ appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked” (Apple, checked on October 29, 2026). Only your carrier can unlock it; Google: “All phones in the Google Store come unlocked.”

Who it suits

  • Trips beyond Mexico and Canada, where most US plans charge a day pass or a travel pass.
  • A week or longer abroad: a daily charge adds up, a data plan does not.
  • An iPhone 14 or later bought in the US: Apple says it “can only be activated with an eSIM” (checked on October 29, 2026), so a local SIM card won’t go in.
  • Not for Mexico or Canada if your plan already includes them: check yours first.

This site is not affiliated with any carrier named on this page; we sell eSIMs. How we compare

You may not need an eSIM. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and most other US carriers already cover Mexico and Canada on their unlimited plans. AT&T Elite 2.0 carries 20GB a month of high-speed data abroad, and Verizon Unlimited Ultimate and T-Mobile Experience Beyond carry 15GB (checked on October 29, 2026).

When is your carrier’s plan enough?

When your plan covers the country and the trip fits its data, stay on your carrier. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile sell roaming passes, not a travel eSIM of their own (checked on October 29, 2026).

Know the bill traps first. Without a pass, AT&T bills data at $2.05 per MB (AT&T rates). On AT&T and Verizon, a call placed or taken, or a text sent, from your US line can open a $12 day (AT&T Day Pass).

Verizon adds background data, such as apps refreshing or email syncing (Verizon TravelPass FAQs). A T-Mobile International Pass bought with no start date starts at once. We compare public packages; check your own plan.

On a cruise, an eSIM works in port, not at sea: see phone on a cruise.

A week abroad: day pass or eSIM?

Outside Mexico and Canada, seven postpaid days cost $84 on AT&T’s Day Pass or Verizon’s TravelPass, at $12 a day. One T-Mobile 10-day International Pass covers the week for $50 with 15GB (our arithmetic).

Our Japan plan$9.995GB for 30 days, data onlyOur catalog

A pass also carries calls and texts on your US number; our prepaid plans in the table are data only and add data beside it. Where the trip fits inside what a plan already includes, as with Experience Beyond’s 15GB, the carrier wins.

In Mexico, a plan that includes it wins too, and the Mexico guide prices the lines that pay. On such a line, our 1GB, 7-day Mexico plan costs $3.99, data only.

Size your data in how much data you need, then compare any trip by days in roaming vs eSIM. Country detail: Europe, Japan and every guide in eSIM by country.

How does a travel eSIM work with your US line?

On 374 of our 379 plan families, the plan starts on first connection at your destination, not at installation (catalog, October 29, 2026). New to eSIM? What is an eSIM covers the basics.

Two checks come before you pay. Check your phone is unlocked from your US carrier (Is my phone unlocked?, how to unlock). It must also be one of the eSIM-compatible phones (Does my phone support eSIM?).

After you pay, install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you go; the install window is shown on the plan page (install guide).

Your US line can stay on for calls and texts. Apple warns that with both lines on, “You might still incur roaming fees from your home eSIM” (Apple). Codes and texts on that line are covered in keep your US number; other questions are in the help hub.

What to check before you buy

Our USD prices are the total your card is charged. You get a full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM hasn’t connected to a network (refund policy).

We refund within 14 days of your request. The seller is JET SHARING MOBILITY INC. (Delaware, United States), and your card statement shows JET SHARING.

Before you buy an eSIM for international travel, pick days and GB that fit the trip and a destination we sell. Regional plans, such as our Europe plan, cover several countries on one eSIM: browse all destinations.

Questions from US travelers

Still stuck? Write on WhatsApp or to support@esimworld.us, or find your order.

Help center →
Do I need an eSIM when traveling internationally?

Not always. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and most other US carriers include Mexico and Canada on their unlimited plans, and if yours covers your destination, stay on it. An eSIM helps when your plan has no data abroad or charges by the day, such as AT&T’s and Verizon’s $12 postpaid day passes.

Where can I buy an eSIM for international travel?

On eSIM World — esimworld.us. Pick the plan on your destination page, pay by card in US dollars and install it at home on Wi-Fi before you leave.

Is it worth getting an eSIM for Europe?

Sometimes. A week of AT&T or Verizon day passes comes to $84, and one T-Mobile 10-day pass is $50 for 15GB (our arithmetic). Our 5GB, 30-day Europe plan is $11.99, data only, while T-Mobile Experience Beyond already includes up to 15GB there (Europe guide).

What happens to my US number while I use the eSIM?

It stays on your main line, because our eSIM runs as a second line. Calls and texts still reach it while that line is on. Abroad, a call you make or take, or a text you send, on it can start AT&T’s or Verizon’s $12 day.
